American Indie Rock songwriter Roger Songbird always impresses us with the range of influences he manages to pack into his music from mid 00s Indie acts like Cage The Elephant to Glam revivalists such as Miles Kane. Yet, his new single might be our favourite ever!
As the namesake suggests, ‘WARTIME!’ is gritty, powerful and full of drama. The verses barrel forward with a wonderfully stimulating Electro Rock groove full of pounding percussion and fuzzy riffs. This is followed by a stripped back chorus that builds the tension beautifully, using a sharp guitar line and percussive claps to get the energy bubbling ready for the electrifying chorus.
This chorus then explodes into life, bringing in layers of angst ridden vocals that produce a cacophony of sound, almost mimicking the force of ancient battle cries. The dense drums completely fill out the sound too, packing out every sonic space with unwavering noise.
