The guitar line that opens the latest single from American Indie outfit Atomic Tom instantly grabs your attention with its tight, rolling rhythm. It creates a palpable energy within the instrumentals and sets the tone for the track wonderfully.
This track, titled ‘Let Me Show You How It’s Done’, blends elements of early 00s Indie, modern Post Punk and alternative electro Pop to offer a sound that never sits still, always having something new around the corner to maintain your interest.
The guitar lines are undeniably infectious throughout and, together with the incessant drum rhythm, build a great energy, enhanced by the occasional pants in the back drop. Yet, it is not merely a track built around uptempo energy and nothing else, far from it.
The sharp vocals have a really thoughtful, angular delivery that has punch and angst in moments, soaring drama in others and often a nostalgic poignancy too. This poignancy comes especially in the chorus line that has a Grunge Pop bittersweet emotion that is reminiscent of King Nun.
Later in the track, some more abstract electronic tones and grittier guitar style being a Rock power into the mix and make the song more and more dense with melodic and tonal interest by the second, perhaps in style that Mother Mother fans would appreciate.
This is a wonderfully well crafted track that we just can’t get out of our heads!
