Nottingham three-piece Marvin’s Revenge have released their anthemic new single ‘Hugs From Grandma’, indicative of a promising stylistic shift for the Alt-Rock band.
Following in lieu of EP ‘VR Porn’, ‘Hugs From Grandma’ instantly ignites with a barrage of careening guitar and breakneck drums, an abrasive calling card synonymous with Marvin’s Revenge. The instrumentation chugs violently with no reprieve, generating a melodic albeit aggressive hook that coils itself tightly around the choruses.
Vocalist Luke Eaton ruminates morbidly, describing an internal monologue that wrestles with reasons for living. Luke's voice is softly unnerving as he contemplates the feeling of drowning atop the alarming instrumentation.
‘Hugs From Grandma’ represents a formidable step forwards for Marvin’s Revenge, a polished and bespoke upgrade to the band’s gritty beginnings. As guitar music continues to revel in a spate of reinvigorated mainstream attention, ‘Hugs From Grandma’ is an irrefutable call to the masses from Marvin’s Revenge.
