One of the most exciting Indie acts right now is New York's The Backfires. They perfectly balance their songs between catchy, bright melody and moody Rock swagger. They have recently announced that their debut album ‘This Is Not An Exit’ will be out on January 24th 2025 and have fuelled excitement for the record with a string of singles this year.
The first of which, ‘Brighter Lights’ kicks off with a swirling electro rhythm that makes you feel like you’re just outside of a packed out venue, about to step in. And when you do…you are hit with an overwhelming force made up of a punchy Indie Dance beat and electrifying riff that will instantly get you moving.
They then followed this up with another winner 'Dressed For A Funeral' which leads with a deep, rumbling bassline which acts as a perpetual anchor, keeping the track grooving along. The song radiates with a carefree romance, breathing with an uplifting spirit which becomes particularly apparent in the chorus. This chorus lifts off into a free-spirited, breezy Indie chorus that rings of Sundara Karma.
Now, they have completely the this trio of sonic temptation with their latest release ‘Replace It All’ which is characterised by its undeniably catchy guitar riff that still carries a gritty swagger thanks to the scratchy tone that rings of 90s Indie Rock. However, the Melodies of the chorus are much cleaner. Equal parts Catfish and the Bottlemen and The Strokes, they combine a cool, understated aesthetic and textural undertones with astute pop sensibilities which make their music so memorable!
These guys are quickly becoming one of the most exciting Indie newcomers on both sides of the Atlantic and we can’t wait for their record.
