London-based heavy wild open their new tune 'Wasteland' with a detuned synth buzz, almost white noise, a staple of the Lo-Fi genre. When the song kicks in, driven by a crunchy, distorted bass riff, a grimy, almost seedy atmosphere is created, as Wolfgang Harte’s Grunge-esque vocals arrive.

As Lo-Fi often is, there is a nostalgic tone to the tune that makes it all the easier to have on replay. The Rock sound is not lost in the Lo-Fi haze, however; sometimes, Lo-Fi tunes can descend into atmospheric soundscapes (which is perfect if intended), yet Wolfgang manages to maintain a catchy song structure, with a Shoegaze-style guitar riff differentiating the choruses from the verses.
The dynamic changes, often dictated by the simple, yet effective, drums, play a similar role in keeping the song from descending into a noisy chaos. ‘Wasteland’ brilliantly teeters on the edge of a glorious cacophony, performing an interesting balancing act that only proves heavy wild’s talent.
