LIVE REVIEW: Ugly Jumper @ Kazimier Stockroom, Liverpool

Happy second Birthday to Ugly Jumper! We feel so honoured to be able to spend it with them and receive a spectacular performance as well! They, like always, gave us their all with endless energy poured into every single song.

KC, lead vocalist, begins with a slower and more acoustic track, ‘Blink and You’re Dead’ which begins to speed up, laced with anger in KC’s cutting voice. They begin to play a few newer tracks which KC states we are the first to hear. They sound remarkable for their first time being played. Each piece, one after the other, is completely electric.

Loz on the drums has the ability to keep everyone’s head bobbing, adding a twinge of Emo and Metal characteristics by giving a rhythmic bash of the drums.

Meanwhile, Nat on guitar skilfully matches the dynamic contrasts in the set list, occasionally joining in with KC to release cathartic screams, adding to their powerful sound. Andy on the bass shows great versatility also, thunderous most of the time then melodic in slower and rawer aspects of their music. Although all their harmonies are incredibly different and unique, they all have one thing in common on-stage... incredible intensity and vigour.

The standout tracks of the night are ‘Ashes’ and ‘Hate Me, Please’ which was joined by their friend Megan on Saxophone, making a delightful addition in the layers of the chorus. They really brought the place alive and livened everyone up by interacting with the crowd.

Ugly Jumper are brilliant performers who work together so seamlessly that we are not surprised they have been making great music for two years now. Here’s to the next couple of years, we hope we can celebrate every birthday with them!
