LIVE REVIEW: The Dare @ New Century Hall, Manchester

Bella Moore

New Century Hall was bouncing when Indie sleaze poster boy, The Dare, took the stage in his trademark black suit and glasses. It’s been a big year for the New York DJ, collaborating with the Electro Pop powerhouse Charli XCX on critically acclaimed single ‘Guess’ and releasing his debut album ‘What’s Wrong with New York?’ which was met with praise for its expansive and bold sound. Now The Dare is taking his sticky dancefloor anthems on tour, and ‘You’re Invited’.

A simple “Good evening” and we were off with the high-octane track ‘Open Up’, delivering a raunchy, catchy chorus that really got the crowd moving. What followed was an evening of pulsating bass lines, flashing club lighting and even The Dare’s very own brass cymbal that he hit and held over the crowd as he stuck to the rhythmic beats.

We then got a cover of The Sound’s ‘I Can’t Escape Myself’, which blended in perfectly, followed by a taste of what’s to come in 2025 with the unreleased banger ‘Cheeky’ making it clear The Dare isn’t going anywhere. He then treated the Charli XCX fans in the room to one of his older songs ‘Bloodwork’ intertwined with elements of ‘Guess’, with the crowd repeating “Send it to The Dare / yeah I think he’s with it”. With the slower synth-based track ‘Elevation’, we were given a few minutes to take in the electric atmosphere with what he described as his “Love song” on the setlist before he brought us right back to the party with the encore.

Of course, a live show from The Dare wouldn’t be the same without the nightclub anthem ‘Girls’ which provocative lyrics first introduced him to the Dance-Punk scene. Safe to say, the energy was unreal with everyone jumping around as he commanded the stage, turning Manchester into an NYC club for one night only.
