LIVE REVIEW: Olivia Diaferia, Ota Brown, Tom Lloyd & Lily Almond @ Kazimier Stockroom, Liverpool

On October 16th MALANTMEDIA hosted a wonderful night of music that seemed to finally drown out the sound of the relentless Liverpool rain. The vibrant lights all over the Kazimier Garden complimented the night’s beautiful sounds wonderfully.

Ota Brown eased us into the night alongside Patrick Swinney on guitar with warm and buttery vocals that instantly elevated the mood of the rainy Kazimier Garden. Her voice blended seamlessly with beautiful chords that travelled around the venue to entice the audience in for a gorgeous night of music. The duo worked beautifully together to perform powerful ballads made by her velvety yet commanding voice, a highlight of the set being ‘Daydream’ taken from Ota's EP ‘Windows’. The duo couldn’t help but pull their audience into their beautifully crafted rhythm.

Next, Tom Lloyd’s set on piano with Lydia Shute on vocals totally captivated the venue. Lydia's vocals soared around the venue whilst Tom's silky chords on top of his lyrics deepened the atmosphere. Together, the duo effortlessly used their talents to blend sensitivity and strength together in their performance. Totally soul-stirring lyrics matched by a voice filled with theatrical flair and precision. Certainly an act to watch on the scene.

Lily Almond together with her band electrified the entire room with full vocals and dynamic rhythms that pulsed through the crowd and made it impossible to stay still. Her soulful vocals layered on top of her vibrant band and the warm Folk undertones granted by her acoustic guitar totally dazzled the room. Almond perfectly set the energy for the rest of the night. Her flair and energy made the ambience bounce.

Finally on the bill was Olivia Diaferia. The venue was packed yet Olivia and her 5-piece band didn't shy away! Together, her vocals and her band totally lit up the room and enchanted the audience in their unshakable groove. Though Olivia is upcoming on the scene and has only played a handful of gigs previously, she has no hesitation when it comes to wrapping her charming demeanour around her audience. She hilariously told us stories behind each song: anecdotes on failed Hinge dates translated into beautiful vocals notably on top of warming synths and hearty bass, and some really mean bass face.

Even with a snapped string, her guitarists seamlessly eased us into her final song with some sweet Rock undertones to wrap up the night with. A totally enchanting performance with a dynamic band and an infectiously endearing personality. Suddenly Liverpool’s rain had stopped...
