Earlier this month, we stepped foot into the cosy acoustic setting of Ditto Coffee in Liverpool to see one of the most promising new songwriters in the city, Miles Temp. After we couldn't get in to his Liverpool Sound City set due to The Jacaranda being full to the brim, we jumped at the chance to finally catch him play in this intimate setting... and we weren't disappointed.
What was instantly striking was Miles' voice. At just 17, he is already able to muster vocals with power, poignancy and finesse far beyond his years. However, he does not simply hit big, powerful notes relentlessly for the sake of it. Instead, his performance ebbs and flows, winding between moments of intimate delicacy that draw you in and moments of soaring power that take you back.
Perhaps one of the reasons that he is able to do this is because of the pure emotion poured into his songwriting. You can really feel in Miles' performance that each and every line means a great deal to him and this spirit is infectious!
The added backing track that brought a cinematic edge to the biggest moments, with swirling strings and drum rhythms, added an extra layer of textural interest behind his acoustic playing and brought together a rapidly developing sound.
Miles is still so young yet he seems to be growing with every release and live show. Follow Miles on Intsagram to keep up to date with his gigs and be sure to listen to his latest single 'Wasn't There' now.
