The team behind the beloved Future Yard venue took over Birkenhead once again this August to showcase a range of emerging locals as well as some of the most interesting live acts from across the UK and beyond. Our highlight was undeniably the Saturday headline performance of Everything Everything.

Their latest album 'Mountainhead', released back in March, is one of our favourite's of the year. It combines their trademark Electronic Art-Pop style with driving drum beats that give this album more an energetic, angsty drive than some of their past work and some beautifully contrasting tonal choices that give a darker under layer to the atmosphere, namely the haunting Rock guitar line in ‘Buddy, Come Over’.
It sounds like an album that is hard to replicate live, but when we saw the 15+ drum set up and the multitude of synths they had stored on stage we knew they had it under control. The instrumental layering was stunning throughout the show, bringing to life insanely complex arrangements with a crisp finesse that made it seem so simple. We have to give a shoutout to whoever was on sound for this one too!

As is often the case, the vocals of frontman Jonathan Higgins stood out. How he was managing to still hit soaring high notes while the rhythm is barreling forward at such a speed is beyond us. 'Cold Reactor' really showcased this talent.
Fan favourites such as 'Regret' and 'Distant Past' had the crowd singing in chorus and really brought the room to life but the more recent, moody tracks like 'Enter The Mirror' and 'Mad Stone' really stood out for us.
The grandeur of Birkenhead Town Hall really matched the slightly pompous, otherworldly sound of their music as the band strutted across the stage with a beautiful light display behind them which also brought an appropriate drama to their on-stage aura.

A fantastic performance that captured the essence of their stunning new album perfectly. It was a cinematic end to a wonderful first day of Future Now and to see such high-status talent performing in Birkenhead felt wonderfully promising for the region.
