The muffled discussion that opens the new single from Swedish songwriter Adée lures you in, making you listen deeply before the swagger of the muted Rock groove kicks in.

‘Chicago’ is a track that oozes with personality from start to finish, so much so that you can feel the heart of the track without being able to understand the Swedish lyrics. Often, we would translate each line and unearth the lyricism, yet we felt the power of this one so strongly we felt we’d just explore the raw emotions that it conjures, whatever your nationality.
From the energy alone, you can feel a conflicted battle of anger and love, a frustrated romance and a bitter, angst-fuelled confidence. The vocals spit lyrics fast, forming a fast flow that intertwines beautifully with the tight guitar riff, building tension from the off.
The chorus then opens into a more melodic yet still stripped-back sound. The drums have a dancey swing while the harmonica adds a cinematic, retro character. It’s like an old American cassette, perhaps originating from the track’s namesake, has been discovered in the Scandi wilderness and given birth to a new breed of underground Garage Rock.
We might be getting it all wrong, only Adée can tell us. Either way, the infectious yet reserved melody of this track combined with its raw, tenacious spirit makes it a song we’ll have on repeat for months.
