Discover the gloomy Shoegaze of American newcomers Pillowprince!

Michaela Roper

Embracing the emphatically whimsical vocal and guitar work of the gloomy Shoegaze scene are brand new residents Pillowprince - an Oakland-based musical duo offering an intimate grandeur fused with a romantically charged mystical Gothic Rock tone.

Their debut single ‘Mercurial’ boasts a story of rejection, loss and longing fuelled by a resonating teenage angst in a style akin to that of The Cure’s earlier work. The track is propelled by a playful tonal lick courtesy of singer-guitarist Olivia Lee whose earnest lyrical stints drift throughout the ethereal soundscape. Together with Sea Snyder on drums, the band’s first release has cemented itself amongst the underground Indie scene as a freshly modern take on the traditional tropes of Shoegaze melancholy.

Fans of Wolf Alice and first-wavers like Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine will appreciate the melodious ebb and flow between Indie Pop and ambient 80s Dream Rock that Pillowprince have to offer.
