The bouncing fuzzy synth that opens Chloe Moriondo’s latest single ‘shoreline’ immediately sucks you into her atmospheric world; an almost dream like place.
Chloe’s vocals then arrive with a greater delicacy than you may be used to if you’ve heard the hectic hyper-pop of her last album. These vocals have a tender, poignant touch to them yet still have a slightly warped electro effect that ties the sound into her distinctive style.
The melody of the first chorus, which remains subtle and insular, is so irresistibly catchy that you just know that a much bigger Pop sound is set to arrive later in the song and indeed the track builds to a much punchier instrumental later on. Synths swirl, the beat hits heavy and layered vocal harmonies drift across one another as you are lifted higher and higher, our of the intimate bubble of the opening into an expansive hyper-pop finale that still oozes with emotion.
This song shows both sides of Chloe’s songwriting and, by leading on a journey from delicacy to bold expression, she allows an added layer of poignancy to ferment in the track, creating one of her most emotionally rich releases to date.
