American duo consistently create a wonderfully enticing sound that oozes with equal parts danger and soul. Their eclectic use of instrumentation, thick grooves and vintage style make for a hypnotic sound fit for a cowboy stand off!
We always love the cinematic drama of their music but their recent single 'Hole' particularly grabbed our attention thanks to the eery soundscape and moody vocal delivery.
The rich and raw acoustic tone immediately draws you in, making you feel like you are right there in the room (or more likely, dusty desert shack) with them. The vocals then arrive with a breathy swagger that is both tempting and menacing. Some of the lyricism and vocal semantics ring of Jack White's solo material yet the instrumentation really is unique, building more of a thickly textured soundtrack than a definitive Indie single.
The deep hum of the electronics brings an extra layer of eery tension as it jitters and tilts this way and that, never letting you get comfortable. The slide guitars further enhance the sonic desert landscape and the backing harmonies lift the intensity as the track nears its end, never exerting so much energy that they lose that cool swagger, but just enough to bring the tension to a simmering climax.
A perfect example of their cinematic abilities.
