Up-and-coming Art-rock quartet Buddy Wynkoop dropped their latest single ‘Stress Fracture’ on Friday - a multi-dimensional take on the increasingly prevalent Post-punk genre. Formed in Portland, Oregan, during COVID-19 lockdowns, the band have since released two EPs teeming with frantic guitars and savvy spoken word observations.
‘Stress Fracture’ continues in this vein, with a chorus featuring scolding solos and a crushing bassline that fuses classic 2000s British Garage Rock with a snarly attitude akin to Australian punk acts The Chats and Amyl and The Sniffers.
The remainder of the track shoves confrontational guitars aside by bouncing between jittery licks and piercing synths in a manner reminiscent of modern-day Post-Punk figureheads Squid, fellow colleagues from across the pond FIDLAR, and a taste of The Talking Heads’ experimentation.
With ‘Stress Fracture’, Buddy Wynkoop blend both contemporary and classic influences all whilst adding a layer of noise-driven edge designed for compact rooms and sticky dancefloors.
